- February:  YouTube is founded by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, three former PayPal employees.

- April 23: The first video, "Me at the zoo," is uploaded by Jawed Karim.

- May: YouTube secures seed funding from Sequoia Capital.

- July: YouTube launches its beta version.

- October:  YouTube raises $3.5 million in funding.

2006:

- January:  YouTube introduces its iconic logo.

- March: YouTube is ranked the 10th most popular website in the world.

- October: Google acquires YouTube for $1.65 billion.

- November: YouTube launches its Partner Program, allowing creators to monetize their videos.

2007:

- June: YouTube introduces its Community feature, allowing users to create channels and interact with each other.
